Happy 40th Anniversary to the World World Affairs Council of Maine

The World Affairs Council of Maine celebrated its 40th Anniversary, on September 10, 2017 on Peaks Island, where the organization was first conceptualized by forward thinking people who hosted United Nations diplomats and correspondents on the island in the early 1960s.  The Council was officially founded in 1977, with the purpose of promoting understanding of world events and issues, diverse cultures, foreign policy, and international trade. Forty years later, the Council’s programming continues to carry out the original purpose, which is as important as ever given our global connectedness and Maine’s expanding global presence.
